My techniques for creating these unique pieces have evolved in the course of time. For clay I use both terracotta and white stoneware clay. Pieces are individually thrown on the wheel or are hand built. After the clay has dried I use multicolor underglazes which guide me into the sgraffito technique of drawing and scratching on the still soft clay. Each piece is then finished by working with different paints and overglazes, a clear glaze or a cold gold finish and finally the piece is fired in an electric kiln.

All pieces are one of a kind. My drawings come from aqncient mythologies, folk tales and imaginary fantasies from my childhhood in Uruguay which have all melded into a specific Washington Ledesma world of art.

	ANIMAL, BIRD, AMPHIBIAN AND REPTILE SCULPTURE When Ledesma's lively creatures demanded to appear on their own forms, the artist's magical hands complied by sculpting birds, amphibians, mammals and reptiles.
